Mr Coyles P7
In P6/7 this term, we are learning all about the continent of Africa. There is so much to find out!
As well as conducting research, we have been engaged in lots of art activities, including creating our own Savannah sunsets with silhouettes. African patterns design and animal eyes that we created have been displayed in our classroom as we are very proud of these!
In the new year, we will be exploring the Vikings, which we know will be a very interesting topic. Following that and in line with our 'Eco-Schools' status, we will spend the third term being 'Eco-Warriors' ad support our school's commitment to being 'Eco-Aware' through learning and practical activities!
Our class novel is 'Holes' written by Louis Sachar. We are thoroughly enjoying this complex novel which interweaves stories from different time periods to show how the past impacts upon the present. The book deftly deals with a multitude of themes in a subtle and poignant way, without compromising the pace and sheer fun of the story. We love this story of desert outlaws. An absolute delight to read!
Through our topic work in numeracy, we have been creating tessellations and symmetrical designs. This has given us the opportunity to be really creative during our Numeracy lessons. We will shortly be moving onto developing our knowledge of time, especially 24 hour times. We hope that the children will put this into practice when they are not in school! Another focus in our numeracy is to develop our problem solving skills by using strategies to solve problems and challenge us to think mathematically.
